Transfer in JPY to Japan - how long does it take and what costs should be included?

Yen transfers are made via SWIFT; typical time is 1-3 business days, and slightly longer for additional verifications. In the GLOBALtransfer Panel we provide approximate date, route and cost variant. Since transfers outside the EOP more often go through correspondent banks, it is worth planning the shipment in advance before the cut-off and choosing the mode corresponding to the deadlines in the invoice.

SHA or OUR when transferring in yen - what to choose?

If the recipient is to receive the full amount from the document, we recommend OUR. SHA lowers the cost for the sender, but carries the risk of intermediaries being hit along the way. In the panel, we clearly show the difference between the variants, so you can easily assess whether it makes more sense to protect the recipient's amount or minimize the cost on your side.

What information is needed for a transfer in JPY?

Japan does not use IBAN. You need full details of the recipient, account number, name of the bank and branch (often with the branch code) and the bank's BIC/SWIFT. The payment title should clearly indicate the purpose, which will facilitate identification. The form in the GLOBALtransfer Panel suggests the correct formats and indicates missing fields, reducing the risk of return.

The most common JPY transfer problems and quick solutions

The most common are mistakes in the name or code of the branch and errors in BIC. If you notice this, check the status in the panel and contact our support immediately. When the "to the yen" amount is important, set OUR. If you are willing to accept small differences at the recipient in exchange for a lower cost on your end, SHA is an acceptable option.

JPY exchange rate and the moment of shipment - when to exchange?

If the final funds are to be in PLN, compare the exchange cost before the order with the shipment in JPY in the panel. When paying in yen, a transfer in JPY often facilitates settlement and reduces exchange rate risk for the recipient. The transaction summary will help you choose the optimal path.
