Transferring GBP to the UK - how long does it take and what costs should you consider?

Transfers in pounds to the UK are most often sent via the SWIFT network and usually arrive within 1-3 business days (due to cut-off times, holidays in the UK and the number of intermediary banks). In addition to the GLOBALtransfer fee, there may be deductions from intermediaries and a fee from the recipient's bank (in SHA). In OUR, all costs are covered by the sender. You will see the approximate time and path in the Dashboard before confirming.

SHA or OUR when transferring in pounds - what to choose in practice?

If you want the recipient to receive the full amount (e.g. payment from an invoice), select OUR. The SHA option may be cheaper for the sender, but in GBP to the UK there are frequent deductions by correspondent banks, so the recipient may receive less. For business settlements and "down to the penny" amounts, we recommend OUR.

What information is needed for a transfer in GBP?

Provide the recipient's name and address, account number and sort code (6 digits). For international transfers via SWIFT, the recipient's bank's BIC/SWIFT is also required, and GB IBAN is often accepted. The title of the transfer should clearly indicate the purpose (e.g. invoice number). In the GLOBALtransfer Panel we will show which fields are mandatory.

Is IBAN required for the UK?

In the UK, domestic payments use account number + sort code. For international transfers, banks often require or accept an IBAN starting with "GB" and BIC/SWIFT. The safest way is to use the data provided by the recipient or his bank and enter them exactly in the order panel.

The most common problems with transfers in GBP and quick ways to solve them

Delays usually result from exceeding the cut-off, additional verification or the work of intermediary banks. An incorrect sort code or account number will suspend or reverse the payment. After placing the order, check the status in the GLOBALtransfer Panel; In case of a mistake, please contact our support immediately. To avoid differences in amounts for the recipient, select OUR and make sure that the data (account number, sort code, BIC/IBAN GB) are up to date.
